The Diabesties Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to Type 1 Diabetes education, awareness, and advocating for access to affordable healthcare. Our team comprises of people living with Type 1 Diabetes and non-diabetics who are working relentlessly in order to make the voice of our community heard. From helping newly-diagnosed individuals to cope with the trauma to connecting with patients and professionals from around the world, we are dedicated to Type 1 Diabetes 247/7 of 365 days. Our awareness activities are aimed at informing the Indian society at large about the basics of Diabetes including its many types and treatments, respectively. We are here to fill the gap that exists in the healthcare sector between HCPs, patients, caregivers and policymakers.
WHAT'S OUR STORY?
Jazz was in Florence, Italy in the year 2017 pursuing a course in performing arts when one day she underwent a severe low blood sugar episode. It was the feeling of being alone at the time that shook her. A few months later, while she was recovering from a back surgery, a similar feeling of loneliness began to surface. Little did she know that it would turn into a great movement!
On 24th June 2018, Jazz organized the first ever DiaMeet – an event for all Type 1 Diabetics to unite, share and express their stories, fears, doubts, experiences and life with Type 1 Diabetes altogether.
A child wearing an insulin pump who feared bullying now had new friends, a mother was in tears watching her child so happy with Type 1 Diabetes for the first time, and most people with Type 1 Diabetes who were alone now had a community. We expected 5 people, 25 turned up! This DiaMeet laid the foundation stone for Diabesties. On 8th July 2018,
Diabesties Foundation was born with the aim to make the Indian society aware of Diabetes, educate them about Type 1 Diabetes, and advocate access to affordable healthcare for all.
